Crypto Mining Container for Sale: Turnkey Buying Guide

A mining container is a pre-engineered data centre in a shipping-container shell: racks, ventilation or coolant loops, switchgear, PDUs, fire detection and controls, delivered as one unit. It is how operators go from a pad and a transformer to hashing in weeks instead of months.

This guide covers the three container families, the specifications that actually matter when you compare quotes, and how we scope and source container builds for buyers from our Hong Kong desk.

Air, Hydro or Immersion

Air-cooled containers are the cheapest per megawatt and the simplest to operate: filtered intake, hot-aisle exhaust, high-static fans. They suit moderate climates and standard air-cooled ASICs, and they tolerate dust and humidity less gracefully than the alternatives.

Hydro containers plumb liquid-cooled miners to a dry cooler or cooling tower and deliver stable hashrate in hot climates with far lower noise. Immersion tanks submerge machines in dielectric fluid, giving the best thermal control and component longevity at the highest capital cost and the most demanding maintenance discipline.

Sizing: Megawatts, Not Machines

Containers are sold by electrical capacity — commonly 1 MW to 5 MW per unit — not by machine count. Divide your available power by machine wall draw to get capacity, then leave ten to fifteen percent headroom for fans, pumps, lighting and future hardware with higher draw.

Confirm voltage and phase at your site, the transformer rating, and whether the container includes switchgear, PDUs and step-down transformers or expects them externally. That single line item moves quotes by six figures.

What a Complete Quote Includes

Structure and insulation, racking, cooling package, electrical distribution to PDU level, controls and monitoring, fire detection, lighting, and factory testing. Then delivery terms: FOB versus DDP, crane requirements on arrival, commissioning support and warranty duration on the container and its components separately.

Ask for the airflow or coolant flow rating per rack, the design ambient temperature, and the noise figure at ten metres. A container specified for 30 degrees Celsius design ambient will throttle in a 40 degree summer, and that is a revenue problem discovered too late.

Site Work You Still Own

A container does not remove civil and utility work. You need a level pad or piles, an interconnect agreement and transformer, grounding, fibre or fixed wireless connectivity, physical security, and permits appropriate to your jurisdiction. Utility timelines are usually the longest item in the whole project.

Start the interconnect conversation before you order steel. Buyers who order containers first routinely have them sitting idle waiting on a transformer.

Buying Sensibly

Compare quotes on delivered cost per megawatt with the same cooling type and the same scope boundary, and insist the boundary is written down. Ask for reference sites, factory acceptance test reports and the bill of materials for the cooling package.

We scope container builds alongside the machines that go in them, so power, cooling and hardware are matched rather than assembled from three unrelated purchases. Email sales@bitcoinminingdepot.com with your available power, voltage, climate and target machine model and we will size options and lead times.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a mining container cost?
Pricing is quoted per megawatt and varies widely by cooling type and scope — air is cheapest, immersion the most expensive. Compare only quotes with identical scope boundaries and delivery terms.
How many miners fit in a 1 MW container?
Divide 1 MW by your machine's wall draw and leave ten to fifteen percent headroom for auxiliaries. Roughly 250 to 300 units at 3,000 to 3,500 W each.
Air or hydro for a hot climate?
Hydro or immersion. Liquid cooling holds rated hashrate because coolant temperature, not ambient air, sets the thermal ceiling.
What is the longest lead time in a container project?
Usually the utility interconnect and transformer, not the container itself. Begin that process before ordering.
Can you supply containers and machines together?
Yes — we scope the container, cooling and hardware as one package so the electrical and thermal design matches the machines you actually intend to run.
